Write down the story as the child tells it to you. Then read it back to the child to make sure they feel you have got it right. The analysis of the story is based on the following scheme, known as BASICPh.

Belief. Are there expressions of a belief system in the story?

Affect. What feelings are expressed, if any?

Social. Are there other people in the story?

Imagination. Has the story got an imaginative context?

Cognition. Does the story contain thinking or concrete facts?

Physical. Does the story include a physical solution or activity?
